What Can You Do To Protect Yourself Against Cancer

It should be taken in to account 3 000 females are getting cancer and 2 000 are dying because of this disease annually in Georgia. First rank place in female's cancer incidence structure takes breast cancer. More than 55% of female's cancer incidence is composed by of reproductive system's cancer (breast, cervical, uterus, and ovary).
These sites cancer are getting 50-60 females form each 100 000 and these figure has the tendency of raise. According to cancer occurrence epidemiological study, high cumulative risk of cancer is estimated in female population of Tbilisi, Abkhazeti and Adjara regions.
It is possible to avoid the cancer and it's related death
Cancer development for many months and years is preceded by precancer diseases and phonic processes, detection and treatment of which may allow to avoid the cancer. Due to formation of high-risk groups and conduction of periodical preventive examinations the early detection of precancer and phonic diseases is possible. The total cure of 90-1000% of cases is possible in early stages. But on other hand neglecting of symptoms causes the disease's progression and the 5-year survival in advanced forms could be achieved only in 18% of cases.

Risk factors

Breast cancer:
  • Age up to 40 years, and especially 50 years;
  • Reproductive period prolongation (starting of cycle before the 12 years old age and it's interruption in 50 years old age);
  • Presence of relatives with breast cancer (mother, sister, grandmother and etc.);
  • Infertility;
  • Marriage, first pregnancy and delivery after the 28 years old age. Cervical cancer:
  • Marriage, first pregnancy and delivery before the 18 years old age;
  • High sexual activity, frequent changes of partner;
  • High fertility syndrome (starting of sexual life before the 18 years old age, more than 6 pregnancies, more than 6 abortions, more than 3 deliveries, first delivery before the 18 years old age).

    Uterus cancer:
  • Age up to 40 years, and especially 50 years;
  • Reproductive period prolongation (starting of cycle before the 12 years old age and it's interruption in 50 years old age);
  • Triad: extra weigh, diabetes and hypertension;
  • Infertility;
  • Marriage, first pregnancy and delivery after the 28 years old age.
  • Low fertility syndrome (absence of sexual life or it's starting after 28 years old age, absence of pregnancies or less than 3 pregnancies, absence of abortions or less than 1abortion, absence of deliveries or less than 1delivery, first delivery after the 28 years old age).

    Ovarian cancer:
  • Ovarian dysfunction (disorders of menstrual cycle, menopause before the 45 years old age, infertility).

    Symptoms of cancer, precancer and phonic diseases

    Breast cancer:
  • Breast pain;
  • Breast pain and enlargement a week prior to menstruation;
  • Presence of breast nodule;
  • Changes of breast shape and form;
  • Breast skin shrinking;
  • Inside turning of breast nipple (umblication);
  • Exudation from the breast (yellowish-bloody spots on the busgalther).

    Cervical cancer:
  • Exudation from outer reproductive organs (gray-green, watery, white);
  • Bleeding from outer reproductive organs;
  • Bleeding from outer reproductive organs after the sexual contact.

    Uterus cancer:
  • Menstrual cycle disorders;
  • Bleeding from outer reproductive organs after the interruption of menstrual cycle (postmenopausa);
  • Bleeding from outer reproductive organs after the 50 years old age.

    Ovarian cancer:
  • Menstrual cycle disorders;
  • Lower abdominal pains;
  • Increase of lower abdominal sizes;
  • Asymmetry of lower abdominal area.

    In case of presence of these symptoms immediately visit the doctor for examination.

    Diagnostic methods for early detection of pathological processes

    Breast cancer:
  • Breast preventive self-examination on every month;
  • Physical examination by specialist (mammologist, gynecologist, oncologist) of breast (once in every 3 year in 20-39 years old age, once in every 2 year in 40-49 years old age, annually after 50 years old age);
  • Radiological (mammography) and/or ultrasound breast examination (first mammography in 40 years old age, once in every 2-3 year in 40-49 years old age, once in every 1-2 year after 50 years old age).

    Cervical cancer:
  • Gynecological and cervical pap-smear cytological examination - at least once in every 2-3 year in married females after the 18 years old age.

    Uterus cancer:
  • Gynecological and uterus cavity obtained material cytological examination - once in every 2-3 year after the 40 years old age.

    Ovarian cancer:
  • Gynecological examination, pelvic ultrasound and if necessary posterior ceiling punition material cytological examination - once in every 2-3 year after the 40 years old age.
