Authors A. Sikharulidze, K. Madich, G. Nemsadze
Similar to the international data, the incidence of breast cancer has also raised in Georgia and it takes the first rank place in female's oncological disease structure. Annual increase on each 100 000 female is 48,8.
This monograph is based on author's clinical material and consists the evaluation of different main diagnostic methods (clinical, radiological, cytological, thermograph, ultrasound and etc) in analyses of breast benign and malignant cases.
The gathering of anamnesis and patient careful examination (inspection, palpation) is especially essential in clinical diagnoses. During the external inspection, attention should be stressed on breast shape, sizes, condition of nipple; it's intrusion, presence of exudation. Tumor consistency, borders and surface should be investigated during the palpation. Breast self-examination, especially after age 30's, plays significant role in diagnostic issue. Precancer diseases are discussed in this monograph - nodular and diffuse forms of fibroadenomatoses, haemorragic breast, polycistoses, fibroadenoma, lipoma, galaktocele, and tuberculosis from other benign pathological conditions.
From the clinical variants of breast cancer, authors have discussed nodular, diffuse, Pagette's type breast cancer and sarcomas. Mammography has the significant role for exclusion of multicentric growth. According to author's data, the accuracy of mammography was 62,8% in I-St stage, 83,9% - II-ND stage. Monograph also evaluates the other diagnostic methods: pneumammography, Xeroradiology, CT, MRI, radionuclide and etc.
Authors have used the cytological data. The correct cytological diagnoses in I-St stage breast cancer was estimated in 62,0% and in II-ND stage - 78,9%. Ultrasound examination has taken the important place in complex diagnoses and is especially beneficial in combination with mammography. Besides, ultrasound is absolutely safe for organism and allows to use it several times.
Thermograph also has deserved the attention in monograph. Its accuracy was noted in 72,1% in I-St stage of breast cancer and at last, the efficiency of complex diagnoses was estimated in 98,0%.
Monograph is illustrated by random photos of patients with different pathologies, microtomogrames, radiological films, and tables. 154 Georgian and foreign literature sources were used.
